Pope Francis 1st Appearance

Recorded live at Piazza San Pietro on March 23, 2025 around noon
6

My first attempt at going “LIVE” on Substack. I captured the scene at St Peter’s Square as Papa Francesco makes the briefest Angulus from a balcony window at Gemelli Hospital where he was treated five weeks for life-threatening double pneumonia.

Pope Francis began “Grazie a tutti,” and chose to shorten what he’d planned to say.. The Vatican says he preferred to use his brief appearance to be present, and to do a blessing - the sign of the cross.

Thank you, all. You have continued to pray for me with so much patience and perseverance, thank you so much! I also pray for you.

I see a lady there with yellow flowers. She’s great!

CORRECTION ON THE OBELISK. IT WAS NOT DONE BY BERNINI.

The work was carried out in 1586 under the direction of the architect Domenico Fontana who required thirteen months of preparatory work, 800 men, 160 horses and 45 winches to carry out the work. It was the first of Rome's obelisks to be raised in modern times. (Wikipedia)
